Of Note: On the Farm

Posted in Of Note on Etsy by Allie on April 27, 2011

I’m trying something new this week. I love doing Of Note, but the hyperlinking is time consuming and awkward, and lately I haven’t been able to get ahead of myself. Also, this week Canadian taxes are due, so I figure any spare time I have should be spent doing those rather than posting pretty pictures.

Lately, I’ve been using the Etsy Lovers iPhone app to make collecting things for Of Note easier. If you’re addicted to Etsy, go get this app. It’s awesome. You can browse and add to your favourites on the go (or if you’re stuck in a car with a sleeping toddler).  I still haven’t figured out how to make posting with it easier, but for now, while I’m stuck in Taxland, I hope you forgive the awkwardness.

Here’s my Farm Gallery via Etsy Lovers. Enjoy.

Happy Wednesday.

Craftin’: Crayon Rolls

Posted in Crafting by Allie on March 11, 2011

At the end of February Mr. S and I tagged along on when Calla went for a tattoo session at Sugar Shack in Kincardine, Ontario. On said excursion I had the honour of meeting the lovely Twwly, after being internet buddies for some years now. Samson spent some up-close-and-personal time with her cat – an animal to this point he’s only seen on YouTube (if you don’t count the strays in our neighbourhood which I wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole), and I’ve spent last two weeks after our visit fantasizing about living on a farm just like Ms. Twwly’s. Towards the end of the visit we got to meet her goats and sheep; I’d pay good money to see Mr. S’ face light up like that every day.

Sadly we didn’t get to meet the bairns, but we did come baring gifts. I wanted to bring something for them that was in line with Ms. Twwly’s no plastic, no crap toy policy, so I immediately started looking through my craft books for ideas. These are based on the Colored Pencil Roll pattern from Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. They’re from the 2-4 hour section, and true to form, I was able to whip two of these up in a couple of hours.  These are shorter than the original pattern to accomodate crayons rather than pencils, and instead of 24 colours, I used only 12—to make them more compact for little hands to carry. The linen for the top and back are upcycled napkins. This also happens to be my first ever quilting project! I’m very happy with the results.
