Classic

Posted in on boys, on growing up by Allie on October 25, 2012

I normally shy away from posting videos of my kids because I understand that 10 minutes of an infant trying to roll over may only be interesting to the person who carried that infant in her womb for 9 months. But some of you have been asking, and this here video is classic Samson. It is jam packed with all the hits: baby chick, an egg hatching, me being referred to as “Ma”, and a warning from my son to me to stop being so careless.

Monday, March 1st

Posted in on running by Allie on March 1, 2010

I never make resolutions to start things on the first of the month. Certainly not on the first day of the week. I think I must have been one of those this is my last chip; the diet starts MONDAY people and at some point I realized there’s just too much pressure when you set a goal like that. I will often say I’m going to do something out loud, so others can hold me to it; I make lists of things I want to do, but beyond that I just do them. And then they’re done.

Today, after realizing the stroller wasn’t in the car, so my regular drive to the beach with dog and baby would require some (annoying and awkward) maneuvering, and after polling Hubby about the state of the roads and whether he thought I should walk or drive to the beach, and looking down at my outfit and realizing it could pass as a running outfit, I made a spur of the moment decision–today’s the day I get back into running. I laced up my (dusty!) shoes, packed the baby into the stroller, leashed the dog, installed drivers and quickly set up my new Sportband while baby and dog fussed a bit, locked up the front wheel of our Bob, and was off.

Oh, but first, the obligatory picture and tweet. Just so I didn’t chicken out on the way. (Obviously, I was in a hurry. Typo!)

Wading through the mud and melting snow at the beach in my lightweight runners was not fun. Nor was running back with wet socks.

My shoulders are a bit stiff from having to hold the stroller (that’s always been a place of tension for me), but overall the run was pretty good, if I do say so myself. I was actually on pace with how I was running a year ago.

And then the the gravity of today’s date hit me. Monday. March. The FIRST. My first run in a year; my first run post-baby; my first run with a stroller–on the 1st. Of March. Monday, March 1st. Well. That just throws all spontaneity out the window, doesn’t it?

Harumph.

Now comes the real question: How the heck do I clean this thing?

Post-Mortem

Well, it’s March. Craft Month has come to a close. I won’t be dissecting how well it went–that’s boring. Crafting will remain a regular feature here, not to worry. I have a whole ToDo List dedicated to it. In the meantime, I’m glad I’ll be able to post some content not having to do with crafts (guilt free!).

Here are some Polaroids from Saturday’s walk to Cherry Beach.

I really hope the rumours about the Polaroid factory becoming operational are true. I’m getting pretty good at these.

Minty Green & Tangerine

Posted in crafty, home life by Allie on February 7, 2010

It’s been a lazy weekend. Not entirely. We got stuff done around the house, I got an album done that’s been bugging me all week, had some brunch, did some shopping, laundry, etc.

No finished objects for you today; I’m busy knitting for a project that I’ll be posting on Valentine’s Day. I’m really excited about this project; I’ve been wanting to do it since last Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize until this week that Valentine’s Day is on Sunday, and here in Canada (or just Ontario?) Monday is Family Day (a new long weekend in February), so all the grandparents are clamoring to see Mr. S, and I’m all: I have to BLOG people! This project has to get done during the day so I (or Ms. Evans and I) can get good photos to post for you, and it all has to be done in my neighbourhood and it has to be ready for Sunday. It’s going to take a bit of planning, but I’ll get it done.

In the meantime, here is a work in progress. Just so you don’t think it’s all baby, all the time here, this one’s for poochie.

And a picture of my baby’s bottom. I’m in love with this colour combination: minty green and tangerine. It would make for a nice, cheery kitchen, don’t you think?
